Lakhana Malfuf Min Sitto Naima, Sitto Naima’s Stuffed Cabbage
Here we are in a New Year! I hope that we will all wake up each new day and try to make it meaningful. I do believe that getting back to our roots is what will guide us through the new year, whatever challenges we may face.
And so, with that spirit in mind, I took a trip to the grocery store yesterday. While in the produce section, the woman in front of me picked up a big head of cabbage. The lightbulb went on and I did the same. I realized that I hadn't had Sitto Naima's Stuffed Cabbage in a while. Even though I knew I only had ground beef in the freezer, I was willing to make it with that. Although Sitto always made it with ground lamb, I knew this would work as well.
Well, I made it the traditional Syrian way but I cut the recipe in half since I only bought the one cabbage. It worked out just fine and was so delicious. It made about 12 cabbages which is great for two meals.
I can't tell you how the aroma of the mint and garlic wafting in the air brought up my spirits! It brightened my resolve as I remembered my roots and those delicious Syrian foods that were always made with love.
